WPF27 ground source heat pump and WWK300 air source will provide heating and domestic hot water

A shooting school in East Yorkshire is saving money and reducing CO2 emissions thanks to an innovative ground source heat pump from Stiebel Eltron.

A shooting school in East Yorkshire is saving money and reducing CO2 emissions thanks to an innovative ground source heat pump from Stiebel Eltron.

Park Lodge Shooting School and Clay Ground, which is set in 44 acres of wide open terrain, provides commercial shooting lessons for members, corporate parties and the general public.

The school, which has the facilities to offer refreshments and host functions due to its various different rooms, is using a Stiebel Eltron WPF27 Ground Source Heat Pump to provide the building with central heating through an underfloor system.

A Stiebel Eltron WWK300 Ai r Source Heat Pump is also using waste heat in the shooting school’s plant room to provide hot water.

Furthermore, the cold air blown from the fan is distributed into the computer server room to cool the servers without the use of additional server air conditioners.


Park Lodge Shooting School’s owner, Tom Bayston, had a ground-source heat pump fitted in his own property in order to reduce the high running costs of an oil boiler and minimise his carbon impact, so he was keen to use similar technology at the school.

He said: “I hadn’t had any previous experience of Stiebel Eltron products prior to this installation .

"Having seen some of the products for myself and taken part in a thorough training course with the company, I recognised their quality and ease-of-use. The support I received from Stiebel Eltron with the design and onsite installation was another excellent reason to use their products.”

The Stiebel Eltron WPF27 Ground Source Heat Pump is ideal for use in residential units, commercial and industrial buildings. The sound-optimised casing ensures an extremely quiet operation and it can be easily installed by means of pallet truck or via lifting eyes.

The WWK300 unit has an external expansive vessel which prevents hot water losses.

  It consists of an enamelled steel internal cylinder and is supplied with all connection
accessories, such as a safety valve expansion vessel, drain outlet and connection fittings.
Tom said: “The performance of the system right from the start has been excellent.

"The ground source heat pump is extremely non-intrusive both in terms of noise and appearance and we have had no problems whatsoever with operating it as it is very straight-forward to use.

"The same goes for the water heater which has proved both robust and efficient.

"Knowing that the system is going to save us so much in both C02 emissions and costly heating bills is the icing on the cake.”

Richard added: “From my point of view, the installation of both the WPF27 and the WWK300 was very straight forward.

"The system is also fitted with remote monitoring so I will know immediately if there is any problem, and the product has built-in meters so we can check how efficiently it is running at any given time.

"If we had any queries about either product, they were quickly and efficiently resolved
by the Stiebel Eltron team."
